Hi all,
Unfortunately, StockPhotographs doesn't seem to have much traffic, as I determined by looking at Alexa.com's traffic ranking. I have nine pics there, but don't intend on uploading too many more, as there isn't much exposure from this site. I did get my first Fotolia sale last weekend, though. $0.33, as a matter of fact. I think I'll need to take an awful lot more photos in order to receive that first $50.00 check! Any suggestions, anyone?
Hi all,
I am Shawn, an editor at Stockphotographs.org and would like to clarify some points.
1. Stockphotographs.org do not depend on stray search engine traffic to sell photos. Also, Alexa can only track people who have the Alexa toolbar installed and that too only IE users on Windows. So saying our site doesn't have enough traffic _base_d on Alexa rankings is not scientifically correct!Regular visitors won't have $60 and above to pay for one photo. So search engine traffic is quite frankly useless to our business mode. We depend on businesses that need high quality stock photos and have the budget for it - by direct contact. They search our sites when they have a need, and buys photos if they see one.
Translated into real life scenario, it is something like this:
Most of the people going into a 99 cent store will buy a couple of things. Those who go into a BMW dealership might or might not buy a car. The number of people going into the store has no effect on the sales in the second case. But if we can get just the people looking for a BMW with money in the bank, it guarantees more sale - what we are doing.
2. $30 is the minimum (Max $250) our photographers make in ONE sale. The minimum amount Stockphotographs.org sell a photo is for $60 (Web Version Personal - 1 year), with the photographer making 50-70% of that amount. So,
• Pros: With StockPhotographs.org, Photographers need to sell only one photo to get their check, unlike the royalty free sites that give you 5 cents or one dollar per sale!
• Cons: Since the photos are expensive, buyers demand better quality photos than the royalty free sites. It is not the quantity of photos you upload, but the quality and the demand that guarantees a sale. So you won't get the results in a week or in a month's time.
When you deal with Stock Photo agencies that sell premium photos,
1. Learn what type of photos (and keywords) are in demand.
2. Upload only the best photos.
3. Use the most relevant (not catchy) Keywords.
4. Be ready to wait for the sale.
Overnight sales happen only when your photos are sold for 1 cent or you have a newsworthy photo that no one else has!!
